I have been taken back by the Treasure as Paul describes and exalts in 2 Corinthians 4. It is amazing to me that it (the Treasure)is described as the glory of God IN THE FACE OF JESUS CHRIST. What does this mean for us? Why "in the face of Christ"? The truth that is being communicated - or should I say "a" truth that is being communicated - is that the God of glory may only be "safely" seen in the face of Christ alone. What a wonderful truth! The King of kings dwells in unapproachable light...and He is the One whom no one has seen...if any were to see Him, they would surely die...EXCEPT they see Him in the face of our gracious Savior Christ the Lord!
Remember the Mount of Transfiguration? The disciples follow Christ up and then are exposed to the brightness of Christ? They then hear a voice from the clouds. What happens next? They drop. Faces down! Don't look up - you will die! But read south a little and you will see a wonderful image. Christ walks up to them and says, "Rise and do not fear..." (Matthew 17).
Where am I going with this? Well, I was reading today in 2 Chronicles and was astounded to see Christ EVERYWHERE! We must only seek Him and He will be found - not only in the New Testament but also the Old. The Word explains Him clearly.
2 Chronicles 30:9 - "For the LORD your God is gracious and merciful and will not turn away His face from you, if you return to Him."
Even in this verse, Christ is mightily proclaimed! Why? B/c justice has seemingly been overthrown or satisfied. The guilty children of Israel can return?????? How is that? How can it be? How could God (the Judge) not punish those who have committed crimes against Him? Here is where Christ comes thundering in. Search the Scriptures and find that anywhere you see the demands of justice lifted from the necks of sinful men, you will find the Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world!!!!
Grace and peace to you all!
thank you for helping me to see Christ even in the old testament. I wish I had the insight to see Christ as clearly. I will keep reading and praying that the eyes of my heart would be opened more and more.
